About Us - Team Profile

Mark Collinson

Mark is a very keen mountaineer, he likes to get out and make the most of the surroundings of the Lake District. To that end Mark along with all members of the team are training for the summer Mountain Leader award. Before coming to university Mark took part in alpine skiing in Whistler, Canada and the Scottish Highlands. Mark is a talented footballer and to his credit he became captain of the University team after only one year on the side. Mark is also a keen volunteer participating in running of local Sports Relief and the Scout Groups in Penrith. In the future, Mark looks to become an Officer in the RAF Regiment.

Logistical Manager

David Lewis

David Lewis is the team’s all round outdoor student. He is an accomplished mountaineer with a particular passion for mountain biking. He also enjoys such activities as climbing and after a recent course in Norway, skiing and ice climbing (accompanied by James) feature high in his agenda. Like other members of the team David has spent four years with the Cadet Forces during which he attended many trips away along with leadership courses to suit. One of David’s future aspirations is to become a Royal Marine Officer and so he shows a lot of commitment to his physical life but also to his friends. He is a keen boxer and competes for his local club. Dave is also an advanced open water diver.

Treasurer

Matthew Smith

Matthew is a key member in the expedition team, not just for his humorous personality but also for his wider knowledge especially in mechanics and travelling experience. Travelling across the globe by the means proposed it will be vital to have his experience at hand. Away from his love of cars and travelling a large part of Matthew’s life is devoted to mountain biking. He has spent time as a bike mechanic and is also a sponsored 4x racer competing at a national level for a number of years. Like fellow members Matthew has recently discovered an interest in ice climbing and Nordic skiing after a University trip to Norway. In the future Matthew wants to own and run his own Mountain biking company.
